Community Road Safety Partnerships Workshops In May this year regional workshops were held in Burnie, Bellerive and Launceston with the purpose of sharing the Community Road Safety Partnerships (CRSP) vision and exploring ways to improve delivery in each municipality. Local CRSP ‘champions’ were targeted and invited to attend. Discussions focussed on the core objectives of the program and achiev ing success at the local level. A presentation was made at each workshop by Deb Mainwaring and Yvonne Stone representing the Circular Head Council. They outlined the recent history and current developments of their own local CRSP program, which has been recognised nationally for its achievement. The workshops, which targeted all 29 participating municipalities, were well supported, with representatives attending from as far afield as Flinders Island. The CRSP program is an initiative of the Depar tment of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources and has been in operation since 2003. Deb Mainwaring (Circular Head), Robyn Watts (Sorell), Yvonn e Stone (Circular Head) and Jess Radford (Sorell) in a plan ning session at the southern CRSP workshop Three-pointed star gets five more The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has announced ma ximum 5-star safety ratings for two Mercedes- Benz models – the all new B-Class and the Valente van. Upholding the safety reputation of Mercedes-Benz, all var iants of the B-Class have been awarded the highest ANCAP safety rating of 5 stars. Contributing to this result is the long list of innovative Safety Assist Technologies that have been incorporated into this model, including a radar-based collision warning system and brake assist – both standard. Additional active SATs such as lane keeping assist and blind spot assist are also available. The Mercedes Viano was the first 5-star Australian rated van and this 5-star rating has also been extended to the people-mover, the Valente. The Australian model comes equipped as standard with head-protecting side airbags for the front seats – this helped it achieve its maximum safety rating. ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motor ing clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Gover nment, all Australian state gover nments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
