Journeys : MNJ Aug Sep 2011
Luke O’Brien has been photographing Tasmania since first visiting the island as a teenager. Through his photography Luke aims to capture the wonderful colour of the natural world as well as the movement and drama inherent in Tasmania’s w ide-open natural spaces. Originally from Melbourne, Luke moved to Tasmania in 2004 to pursue his love of photography and Tasmania’s natural environment. He started showing his work at Salamanca Market and now displays his images full-time in his Tasmanian Landscapes Galler y at 46 Melville Street, Hobart. Another side of Luke’s photography comes from his annual visit to Japan with his wife, Midor i. Midor i is from Fukushima, part of the area that was recently devastated by the earthquake and tsunami. This year they will be travelling and photographing the Tohoku region of Japan to show support for the people of that area. Luke’s website ww w.lukeobrien.com.au includes a portfolio for viewing and purchasing images, as well as a blog, which is an ongoing account of Luke’s photographic travels.
