Journeys : Jun Jul 2011
This 13 night adventure starts from Papeete onboard Aranui 3, a specially built ship that carries 200 passengers, in modern day comfort, and 3000 tonne of freight. The ship, built in 2002 and launched the next year, boasts many of the facilities that are more typically found in big cruise ships; which includes a swimming pool, sun deck, gym, library, bar, dining room and passenger lounge. But the similarities end there. This is a working ship delivering the freight and collecting local produce from around the islands of the Marquesas Archipelago. The cruise includes all meals, wine with lunch and dinner onboard and all land based excursions. Contact RACT Travelworld for copies of the 16 page brochure, departure schedule, pricing sheets and the latest DVD. For those with a spirit of adventure and wanting an entirely different cruise! The Aranui 3 offers an adventure of a life-time whilst discovering the Marquesas Archipelago, some 1300 kilometres north east of Tahiti, which hosts some of the most remote and beautiful islands in the world. My experience on Aranui was out of this world. The pure magic of the Marquesas is with you 24 hours a day. To stand on the deck with your arms around a loved one and gaze up at those towering volcanic peaks disappearing into w ispy clouds leaves you in awe of nature and the forces that created these islands. The peaks are every imaginable shade of blue and green with craggy rock faces thrusting out, all the way down to beautiful beaches lined with swaying palms. To be able to climb the mountains and take in the view is breathtaking and unforgettable. At first glance, tied up to the dock, Aranui is not impressive – just a freighter w ith passengers, you think. But once you get to know the ship and her crew, you don’t want to go home and your time aboard is far too short. At the nine islands you visit, even watching the unloading of freight is fascinating! Every day is a new experience and you have all day to explore these special islands, as the ship travels by night, unloading freight and passengers during the day. Trips ashore are laid on for free. It is a happy ship and the crew are a joy to interact with – nothing is too much trouble. The food is first-class French cuisine and the cabins couldn’t be more comfortable.
