Motor News noted as a harbinger of things to come: “A special committee appointed by the NSW Government is now considering whether compulsor y tests of body fluids to detect dr unken drivers should be applied.” The ubiquitous Mor ris Minor had just performed well at the Tasmanian Grand Prix, and its agents, H. Heathorn and Co, took out an advertisement in Motor News to extol its virtues. Over 36 miles, a standard Mor ris Minor had blit zed the field in the handicap race, achieving an average lap speed of 53mph and a top speed of 75mph. There was even poetry in Motor News in 1953. A cautionary ditty entitled ‘Ten Motoring Sins’ was submitted by LW Hellewell of Moonah. It began ... Ten little motorists going out to dine, They had too much to drink, and then there were nine. As the ranks tragically dwindled ... Two little motorists out to have some fun, Recklessly they passed a tram, and then there was one. Until finally ... One little motorist, when his day was done, Failed to give the right of way, and then there was none! You can read the full poem on the RACT blog at ww w.ract.com.au . Bridgestone Australia Ltd.
