14 December 2010 / January 2011 Old Man of Hoy Destinations Seafood and silver, wildlife and wind Verity Croker explores Orkney The rock stack known as The Old Man of Hoy towers above us, wreathed in mist. It is renowned as a climbers’ challenge, but I am having enough difficulty just keeping the camera steady to take a photo of it as the ferry pitches and tosses in the rough seas. Waves crash over the boat and we are horrified to see our car repeatedly showered in salt water.
