Tasmanian Delights With Christmas only weeks away it may be the right time to look at the Christmas cellar. We have been fortunate to have been able to secure some excellent quaffing Tasmanian varietal wines that will make excellent accompaniments to this year’s Christmas feast whether you are eating traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings or as many Tasmanians may, a seafood extravaganza. The RACT Members’ Tasmanian Sauvignon Blanc is a fine example of this variety. The fruit f lavours are complex, rang ing from melons to dashes of tropical fruit, well rounded by beautiful cleansing acidity. Tr y with any fish dish, smoked salmon, trout, pickled trevalla and battered fish or just by the glass. For those seeking a more traditional style of white wine the RACT Members’ Tasmanian Chardonnay is ready for drinking now. A palate of good fruit weight and flavour length means that this wine can accompany strong fish dishes and roast turkey. On a hot day keep the wine chilled and you will be rewarded. Pinot Noir is undoubtedly a versatile red wine variety and the RACT Members’ Tasmanian Pinot Noir will match many dishes. If you are keen to barbeque some salmon or trout cutlets, tr y them with this silky Pinot Noir. If you are having the traditional roast dinner, Pinot Noir is superb with roast turkey. For those wanting a different red wine the RACT Members Tasmanian Merlot has a firm and strong mid palate suited to most roast meats but in particular roast turkey. Just a dash of Merlot in the grav y will finish off the meal beautifully.
