October / November 2010 11 Ted Best AM Ted Best AM, of Hobart, has been a Director since 1994 and an RACT member for 36 years. He is the Immediate Past President, having been President from 2004 to 2007. During that period he also ser ved as a Director of the Australian Automobile Association. Ted is a member of the Road & Traffic, Investment and Governance and Remuneration Committees, as well as being a Director of R ACT Pty Ltd and R ACT Holdings Pty Ltd. He is a Director of R ACT Insurance Pty Ltd and Chairman of the company's Audit Risk & Compliance Committee. He holds the qualifications of Bachelor of Engineering with 1st Class Honours and Bachelor of Science (University of Tasmania) and Master of Business Administration (Deakin University). Ted is a Justice of the Peace, a Fellow of the Australian Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also Secretary of Variety, the Children's Charity and a member of the Salvation Ar my's Development Council. He had a 42 year career with Cadbury-Schweppes Pty Ltd including more than 21 years as Director of the company's Tasmanian Operations. Peter Dixon Peter Dixon, of Launceston, has been a member of the RACT for 46 years and joined the Board in July 2007. He is a member of the Road & Traffic Committee and is Chairman of the R ACT's Norther n Regional Advisory Committee which meets regularly to con sider and provide recommendations to the RACT Board on Norther n regional road safety, traffic and traffic management issues. Peter is one of three Directors who live in the Northern and North Western areas of the State and he sees it as one of his responsibilities as a Director to represent the interests of Northern members. Peter was a lawyer in both private and semi-government practice for many years and has extensive legal and business experience having obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1967 at the University of Melbour ne and an MBA from the University of Tasmania in 1995. He was President of the Law Society of Tasmania in 1998, and Treasurer in 1996 and from 1999 to 2001 Peter is a Lecturer in Management in the Faculty of Business and specialises in business strategy. He is also Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) of the Faculty of Business. Peter is a Notary Public and a Civil Marriage Celebrant. He is married with two adult daughters and two grandchildren. Robin Holmes Robin Holmes, of Sandy Bay, was elected a Director in 2001 and is currently Chairman of the Audit & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Investment Committee. Mr Holmes is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a past Associate of the Australian Society of Accountants. In 2006, he retired after 45 years in senior management roles in large public and private companies throughout Australia, the most recent being 11 years as General Manager, Tasmanian Redline Coaches Pty Ltd, operators of passenger transport and freight ser vices throughout Tasma nia. He is mar ried to Helen and has two married daughters and three grandchildren. Robin was, and Helen continues to be involved in Rotary Inter national and community affairs, both being past Presidents of their Clubs and past Assistant District Gover nors. Robin has been an R ACT member for 44 years. Roger Locke Roger Locke, of Hobart, has been a Director since 1987 and was elected President in October 2007. He is Chairman of R ACT Pty Ltd, R ACT Holdings Pty Ltd and the Gover nance and Remuneration Committee, as well as being a Director of R ACT Insurance Pty Ltd and R ACT Travel Pty Ltd. As R ACT President, he is also a Director of the Australian Automobile Association. His professional qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Professional Management and he is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Although Roger retired in 2007 from full-time work with SEMF Pty Ltd, he retains his Chartered Professional Engineer status and again works for the company as a casual employee. Roger has been a member of the RACT since 1973 and lists skiing and sailing among his interests. He is a past Commodore of the Cr uising Yacht Club of Tasmania. He has also been Chairman of the Tasmanian branches of Engineers Australia, the Concrete In stitute of Australia and the Australian Water Association and was the inaugural Chair man of the Southern Primary Schools Twilight Cricket Association. Toni Sydes Toni Sydes, of Mount Nelson, is 34 years of age and is keen to join the R ACT Board of Directors to continue contributing to the reduction of road crashes in Tasmania. Until recently, Toni was the Executive Manager of the State Gover nment's Road Safety Task Force, a position she held for over three years. This role required Toni to develop public education activities to change driver attitudes and behaviour. During this time, Toni worked closely with Tasmania Police, Department of Infrastr ucture, Energy and Resources (DIER) and other stakeholders, developing her knowledge of the issues affecting road safety. Toni has strong marketing communication skills which are used in her current role as Manager eMarketing at Tourism Tasmania. She has a desire to contribute to social change within this State. Toni is a Director of Variety, the Children's Charity, a Certified Practising Marketer and is enrolled in an MBA at the University of Tasmania.
