Life on the move Photography road trip Brian Dullaghan Road trips are a photographer's dream -- in each new kilometre there's a photo waiting to happen. As a professional photographer I've undertaken road trips in every state and territory, taking images for travel brochures, websites, books and calendars. During one such trip to Tasmania in 2007, I fell in love with the island and I moved here per manently in 2008. As I was born in Dublin it seemed only fitting that I should end up in Van Diemen's Land, where many of my forebears were sent as punishment for such wicked crimes as stealing a pair of shoes! Today, when I'm not taking images for clients, you'll find me driving around Tasmania shooting for my ow n stock library. My road trips are usually planned ahead, although sometimes I'll load up the car and just head off to see what happens. These speculative trips often produce some pleasing results -- maybe that's the luck of the Irish! When I do plan a trip it's often based around a theme. One of my passions is capturing reflections, which means I have to be an early riser with plenty of patience. Another theme might be 'fields in bloom', so I'll head for the tulips on Table Cape, the lavender at Bridestowe Estate or the sea of golden canola around Perth. It can take years to get the perfect shot of a location -- you just have to keep going back! In your mind you can see the photo you want, but many things have to work in your favour to capture it with your camera. 5% OFF* across the store *Excludes advertised specials & benchmark trade specials as displayed in store.
