All four wines have either won gold medals or trophies in wine shows around Australia. They represent different production areas in Tasmania, the Tamar Valley, the Coal River Valley, the East Coast and the Der went Valley all with their ow n regional variations. The wines are of exceptional quality epitomising the best characteristics of their regions while having a common theme of richness, intensity and complexity that only the best Pinot Noir can offer. While the wines can be dr unk with gusto now with food such as pork and veal terrines, salmon cutlets to red meats including venison and other game meat they will all benefit with some cellaring. All four wines are good food wines filling your palate with rich and complex flavours with subtle tannins. Silk Hill is a small vineyard situated on the West Tamar and ow ner, Gavin Scott, has been making excellent Pinot Noir in Tasmania for many decades. His 2006 Silk Hill "The Supply" won a gold medal at the 2009 R AST Hobart Inter national Wine Show. A rich wine, intensely flavoured with lovely wood and fr uit spice. Great length and the ability to cellar for five years or more. The 2007 vintage in Tasmania produced some extraordinary wines. The Pooley Vineyard in the Coal River Valley produced a Pinot Noir that won the Top Gold and Trophy at the 2009 Rutherglen Wine Show. It was also awarded top Tasmanian Pinot Noir in Winestate Maga zine's Best Regional in 2009 scoring 5 stars and 94/100 in James Halliday's 2010 Wine Companion. This is another wine that has extraordinary palate length, complexity, spice with dark cherry and red fr uits. Cellaring will enhance its development and enjoyment for years to come. Freycinet Vineyard on the East Coast of Tasmania has a unique reputation for producing intensely flavoured Pinot Noirs that live extremely well. The 2007 Freycinet Louis Pinot Noir won Top Gold and Trophy for the best 3 year old Pinot Noir in the 2010 Tasmanian Wine Show and is again another Pinot Noir that would benefit from five plus years cellaring. A strong aroma of berry fr uits and subtle oak is followed by a savoury and smooth textural long finish. A delight to drink now. The last Pinot Noir in the quartet is the 2007 Derwent Estate Pinot Noir. Facing north on the banks of the Der went River the Der went Estate Vineyard produces superb fruit resulting in excellent wines. The 2007 Pinot Noir won a Gold Medal at the 2009 R AST Hobart Inter national Wine Show. The 2007 Der went Estate Pinot Noir has dark cher ry and red ber ry fruit with soft tannins. The finish is long and satisfying. There are many excellent choices of Pinots Noirs that you can purchase in Tasmania. We are delighted to be able to offer you four such wines for your enjoyment.
