Journeys : April May 2010
Tasmanian football The Tasmanian Statewide League is a real community endeavour. It's not just a Tasmanian football competition. It's a sport that taps into almost every community in the State, with towns and cities across Tasmania supplying players, administrators, umpires, coaches and ground staff. RACT Insurance became a major sponsor of the TSL last year, and after the first successful RACT Insurance Player of the Year award, we're ready to get further involved this year. As well as the Player of the Year award, this year RACT Insurance is providing runners' uniforms for all the TSL clubs. And don't miss the footy tipping competition on the RACT website at www.ract. com.au. Great fun and great prizes to be won -- and it's all about local football. Check out the RACT site, and starting tipping. Prizes include: Registration prize .................... $500 Weekly prize AFL .................... $250 Weekly prize TSL .................... $250 AFL final winner ....................$2,000 TSL final winner ....................$2,000 The Taste of Tasmania RACT Insurance has had an involvement in Hobart's Taste of Tasmania for a number of years. It's a big event that makes its mark on the Australian tourism calendar, and at the same time creates a tremendous occasion for social interaction for Tasmanians after the rigours of the working year. For those reasons, we like to support it, and we intend to maintain our support for significant community events across Tasmania Tasmanian Youth Portraiture Prize Now into its third year, the Prize will culminate with the naming of winners in September. Entries for this year's Prize close on June 30. The Tasmanian Youth Portraiture Prize is the creation of RACT Insurance. The entrants are all Tasmanians aged under 30 who create an art work to portray a living Tasmanian who has inspired them. Last year, a record 60 entries included subjects such as infants and children to Tasmanians with a wide range of backgrounds, including musicians, a barman, a grandmother, a teacher and a professor. The aim of the Prize? It's to identify and encourage emerging Tasmanian artists, and at the same time to recognise that every community in Tasmania contains often unheralded people who have provided inspiration to others through the way they conduct their life. Last year, RACT Insurance was named a national winner of the Australian Business Arts Foundation awards for its work in creating and conducting the Prize. Young artists interested in taking part this year should go to the website: www.typp.com.au. The winner will receive $5,000 and a trip for two to visit the Archibald Prize -- one of the great prizes for portraiture -- in Sydney. RACT Insurance in the community Over the years RACT Insurance has supported many worthwhile community undertakings. We've lobbied on behalf of acquired brain injury sufferers, supported the youth program Project U Turn, and many other great undertakings.
