Dream home without the drama Home Loan application fee Shop around for the best home loan deal Leading Tasmanian home loan lender B&E Personal Banking has welcomed national research that urges people to shop around to get a better deal on their home loan. CEO Paul Ranson says that recent financial comparisons conducted by Infochoice.com.au clearly showed that people could get a better deal on their mortgage repayments if they shopped around and looked at what was on offer, particularly from smaller institutions. "Alarmingly, the research shows that the reluctance of Australian consumers to shop around for the best deal is costing them $2.7 billion in excess mortgage repayments each year," Mr Ranson says. Infochoice reported that despite the major banks continuing to offer significantly higher interest rates than other smaller competitors in the marketplace, 90% of new home loans were currently being provided by the majors. "B&E's standard variable rate is cur rently 6.27%, which compares very favourably to the major banks, where the variable rate ranges up to 6.31%. These figures clearly support Infochoice's findings," he says."Importantly, our most popular home loan, Topline, remains a market leader, offering consumers a rate of 5.87% on home loans over $300,000 and 5.97% on home loans over $200,000. "As a Tasmanian financial institution, we continue to be committed to keeping our rates as low as possible and providing value for members as opposed to profit for shareholders," Mr Ranson says.
