As you would expect of Tasmania's largest in surer, we covered many of the assets that were lost in the fire. One house wa s completely destroyed and other policy holders lost fences, water tanks and outbuildings. Once again, we experienced the shock and sadness our customers felt at the loss of treasured possession s. Please make sure your home is ready if the worst should happen in your area this summer. On the Tasmania Fire Ser vice website at w w w.fire.tas.gov.au you can learn all about the new national fire danger rating scale. (We sponsored an article covering much of this in the last edition of Motor News Journeys.) There are also simple things you can do around your home. For instance, keep garden hoses connected to outside taps and ensure they are long enough to reach all areas of your house and garden. Our congratulation s to Tasmania Police on Operation Bonnet over December and January. In this excellent initiative, police w rote to car ow ners if they noticed a vehicle that was not properly secured. Our own data on car theft and theft from cars points to this as a significant and continuing issue. Claim s for thefts from cars tend to climb over summer. People leave windows wound dow n and in the lead-up to Christmas, they often leave valuable items on display inside the car. A few years ago, we erected Lock Your Car signs in council car parks and shopping centre car parks. It's good advice if you want to deter opportunistic thieves. ------------ Finally, another innovation to help our cur rent and prospective policy holders access R ACT In surance -- online quoting for comprehensive motor vehicle and third party policies is now up and r unning on our website. Simply go to w w w.ract.com.au and click on Insurance. 25 February / Ma ch 10 October / November 09
