"As well as general mechanical repairs, we specialise in electronic fuel injection, suspension and wheel alignment services," Shane says. Pride Autos Pty Ltd 78 Bathurst St, Launceston Phone 6334 1311 There were a couple of unusual vehicles in the workshop of Pride Autos when we called -- the classy Lotus made quite a contrast with the classic little Morris Minor. Pride specialises in engine tuning, using the latest computerised Scan-Tool diagnostics. The business has been an R ACT Approved Repairer since 1989. Co-proprietors Stan Hardman (right, with mechanic Daniel Walker, who finished his apprenticeship recently) and John Dixon have seen some big changes in technology since taking over the business, which dates back to 1975. Stan says that Pride is still ser vicing the vehicles of some customers Moncrief Motors is also an R ACT Technical Ser vice Centre, providing pre-purchase inspections for our members on the Coast. Away from the workshop, Shane's attention moves from tyre irons to five-irons. He's a keen low-handicap golfer, playing at Devonport's beautiful Woodrising course -- although on the day we called in, he admitted that his handicap had stretched out a stoke, from 6 to 7. Too much time in the workshop and not enough on the greens, perhaps? who have been with the business since then. "Things have changed fast in automotive technology," he says. "Innovations such as Antilock Braking System and Electronic Stability Control have meant a big lear ning curve to keep up to speed." It's a key reason that Pride has a strong policy of training the next generation who will work in the industry, through a regular apprenticeship program. Better Performance 1718 Channel Highway, Margate Phone 6267 2830 Dow n at Better Performance in Margate, they've recently moved into a spacious new workshop at the rear of BP Margate, following a major redevelopment.
