Lic.Tas025 THE WORLD'S LEADING RIVER CRUISE LINE...BY FAR® Where would you imagine a young Tasmanian couple might choose to spend a romantic honeymoon -- Fiji, Vanuatu or perhaps Hawaii? Not for us -- Phil and I chose New York in the snow! Through watching what some might say are unhealthy amounts of television, I thoughtIknewwhatIwasinfor--butI had no idea. We arrived in the evening and braved the snow to walk to a nearby family-run Manhattan pizzeria. Waiting for our meal was the fun bit! It was like stepping into a scene from The Sopranos; everything happens very fast and yelling is considered the nor mal way to talk. We packed a lot of experiences into our eight-day stay. Our Sunday Harlem gospel tour was a fantastic experience -- we took a guided coach and walking tour around Harlem, learning the history of the area and visiting The Apollo Theatre, which has launched the careers of many artists, including Michael Jackson. Jane honeymoons in New York A joyous and musical church ser vice followed the tour. The people were inviting, the ser vice was filled with song and participation was mandatory -- we had a ball! To save on taxis we pre-purchased a two- day 'hop-on, hop-off' bus ticket. This gave us entry to the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre and the Statue of Liberty, while giving us transport all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. A must-do for me in New York was to make a purchase from Tiffany & Co on 5th Avenue. After looking everywhere for what I wanted, I asked where the signature pieces were and was told they were on the third floor. That's right -- Tiffany's has four floors of jewellery! My heart stopped from excitement -- Phil's through sheer terror. As well as shopping, other New York highlights included a day trip to Philadelphia and the Amish Country, seeing Shrek The Musical on Broadway, watching the New York Knicks lose to the Boston Celtics basketball team at Madison Square Gardens and daily visits to Times Square. We dined at the legendary Tavern on the Green and strolled through Central Park in the snow, where I re-enacted the song and dance scenes from the movie Enchanted. We came home with enough New York memories to last a lifetime -- and yes, with my Tiffany bracelet!
