After my comfortable flight with United Airlines from Sydney I arrived in Las Vegas ready to head out and explore this lively city that we all hear so much about. My first evening involved a stroll up the famous Las Vegas Strip taking in the fountains at the Bellagio, the Volcano at The Mirage, the gondolas at the Venetian Resort, the pirate ship at Treasure Island and a stroll through Caesar's Palace, absorbing the glitz and glamour of this mesmerising city. I stayed at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino and the Hilton Grand Vacation s Club, both on the Strip. Vegas comes to life at night and there are plenty of different entertainment options, with musicals, nightclubs, Cirque de Soleil shows, comedians, musical artists and of course casinos to keep you busy way into the night. I was fortunate enough to see the moving Cirque de Soleil show at the MGM Grand Hotel and was amazed. My trip also included site inspections of Excalibur Hotel, the iconic Luxor Hotel, The Hotel at Mandalay Bay and Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. I travelled in typical Vegas style in a stretch Hummer to experience a helicopter flight over the Vegas Strip. There's plenty of shopping to be done in Las Vegas. The Fashion Show Mall at the end of the strip near the Venetian Resort has every shop and department store you could imagine and the Premium Fashion Outlets about a 10 minute taxi ride from the strip have plenty of brand name and designer bargains. From Las Vegas, it's a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Boulder City is a 45 minute drive from Las Vegas and from here I took an unforgettable helicopter flight more than 1300 metres down into the depths of the canyon, to touch dow n by the banks of the Colorado River for a champagne picnic. This tour also includes majestic views of Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. My trip to Vegas wouldn't have been complete without a trip to the famous Graceland Chapel, scene of the original Elvis wedding and a Las Vegas tradition. Countless celebrity couples have walked down the aisle at the Graceland Chapel and after seeing Elvis do his thing and listening to stories of various weddings and requests of the chapel I definitely left thinking 'only in Vegas!' Rebecca Sims was a guest of United Airlines. Been there, done that Rebecca says 'Viva Las Vegas!' 57 October / November 09
