Journeys : October November 2009
Over the next twelve months we will be conducting a series of wine experiences for wine lovers that will include, amongst other topics, how wine is made, storage of wine in the winery, including tank and bar rels, the stages of blending from tank and bar rel to the ultimate process of bottling the finished wine. How to taste wine will be a central theme of the program with experience winemakers and wine judges leading the groups. The Experiencing Tasmanian Wine program will begin on 18th February, 2010 with a "behind the scene" two hour introduction to Tasmanian wine with winemaker Jeremy Dineen the winemaker/manager at the very successful Josef Chromy Wines at Relbia just fifteen minutes drive south of Launceston. We will be shown how wine is made with Jeremy walking us through the winery, followed by a tasting of both tank and barrel wines and seeing the finished wine by tasting the current bottled range. This will be a unique opportunity to see how a winery works and how wine is made and produced in a state of the art winery. The cost is $25.00 per head. The second of our Experiencing Tasmanian Wine will be held on 20th February at Meadowbank Estate which is situated in the Coal River valley some fifteen minutes from central Hobart. Gerald Ellis the managing director of Meadowbank Estate will lead the group. Gerald is one of Tasmania's pioneers of the moder n wine industry having successfully steered Meadowbank Estate from a very small vineyard in the late 1970's into one of today's successful and recognisable producers. The tour will include a vineyard walk and restaurant /cellar door tour, including the intriguing Flawed Gallery, a colourful and fascinating history of the Tasmanian wine industry. A tasting and discussion will follow based on the popular "How to be a wine snob in 45 minutes". A humorous look at wine while encompassing important topics such as wine faults, glassware, the language of wine and much more. Cost is $45.00 per head.
