Footy Tipping winner RACT Insurance Trent Sayers with David Goldsmith, winner of the inaugural AFL tipping competition. A member for 44 years, Mr Goldsmith was an amateur footballer of considerable talent -- he was selected, along with two of his Friends Old Boys team-m ates, in the All-Australian Amateur team that competed in the 1958 Centenary Carnival. Friends Old Boys teams dominated the era, winning 13 out of 14 grand finals in the 1950s and early 1960s. Mr Goldsmith also has strong links with the Hawthor n Football Club -- the No 10 jumper was a gift to his son Scott from Ray Wilson, a member of Hawthor n's first premiership side. The Ballot closes at 12 noon on Wednesday 4th November 2009. The 86th Annual General Meeting, which will include the election of members to the R ACT Board, will be held at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay, on Wednesday 11th November 2009 at 5.00 pm. This year, the election of members will necessitate a ballot as there are seven nominations for the four positions. The four retiring members who are eligible for re-election are Josephine Archer, David Catchpole, Stuart Slade and Kathryn Westwood. In addition to the retiring members, nominations have been received from three southern R ACT members, Richard Dowling, Jonathan Jackson and Nigel Reeves. A profile of each candidate appears opposite. (The R ACT Board has 12 members, each of whom is elected for a three-year term. The four members of the Board who have been longest in office shall retire but they may seek re-election for a further three-year term providing they qualify under the age requirements). How to vote The ballot for the four positions on the Club's governing body will be held between 12th October and 12 noon on 4th November 2009. The result will be announced at the Annual General Meeting on 11th November 2009. RACT members entitled to vote in the election are Service (Roadside Advantage/Roadside Ultimate), Social Members, Honorary Life Members, Paid Life Members and the nominated person holding a Fleet membership. Members must be financial at the time of voting. An 'Application for Ballot Paper' appears opposite and should be delivered to the R ACT Head Office, Cnr Murray & Patrick Streets, Hobart, either personally or by mail. Applications are also available at R ACT branches statewide. (Where an application is made at a branch or through the post, a ballot paper and supporting documentation will be mailed to the member upon confirmation of eligibility.)
