Journeys : October November 2009
The R ACT's dedicated Public Policy and Communications unit underpins the Club's efforts to influence gover nment and the policy agenda for the benefit of members and to advance the aim of safer drivers, in safer cars, on safer roads. Perspective is the RACT's pilot project to help better understand the views of R ACT members on issues that are of interest to you. We would like to set up Perspective, our new member panel, using the simplicity of email to engage a representative cross- section of our membership. It would provide RACT with an opportunity to obtain a real-time sample of community views on various concepts, policies or products. The idea of an email-based member panel isnotanewone--ithasbeenusedbya number of local councils across Australia for some time, as a mechanism for householders to provide comments and feedback on local municipal issues. It is also being used now by our sister club in Western Australia, R ACWA. Member panel -- your Perspective, please We envisage an opt-in system where members would be invited by email to participate in brief (say, two minute) online surveys on important road safety or infrastructure topics. We wouldn't swamp you with requests. Any financial member of the RACT would be eligible to become a part of the panel and Perspective would be fully compliant with the privacy and market research policies of the Australian Market and Social Research Society. If you think this is a worthwhile project and would like to be involved in the pilot, please send an email with a simple subject or body message 'JOIN' to MemberPanel@ract.com.au Alternatively, go to our website w w w.ract. com.au and look for Perspective -- Member Panel on the Quick Links list, and follow the link. Yo u r Perspective is important to us! Vince Taskunas is the RACT's General Manager, Public Policy and Communications. Ow ners and crews of more than 20 cars raise money throughout the year and then tour the island for eight days, bringing plenty of fun to children at various schools and supporting children who need some extra help. This is the 19th Bash in Tasmania - it's a unique event that has raised close to three million dollars since its inception. Funds raised enable Variety to enrich lives and inspire hope for Tasmanian children in need. It achieves this through the provision of essential items such as wheelchairs, walking frames, Sunshine Coaches, Liberty Swings, second-skin application s and communication devices, as well as scholarship programs and life experiences. www.ract.com.au/fuel_watch RACT believes that the best way we can get more competitive petrol prices is through greater price transparency. RACT Fuel Watch is an online price monitoring program with fuel price data displayed at 4pm every day, Monday-Friday. You can access the cheapest daily petrol prices from regions across Tasmania by going to our website w ww.ract.com.au/fuel_watch This increased monitoring has been made possible with funding support from the Tasmanian Government. Our price collection partner Informed Sources is looking for vigilant and reliable RACT members for paid positions to obser ve and report daily fuel prices from the ser vice stations near you. All that is needed is the price of fuels on five mornings per week. For further information on how you can help please contact Carleen at Informed Sources on 1800 071 888. Help us keep Tasmanian fuel prices transparent In our community 7 October / November 09
