We also had the chance to enjoy the desert safari dinner. Riding in a fourwheel-drive over the golden sand dunes was an exhilarating experience. The driver was very skilled, and we all had the time of our life getting to the desert camp. After the drive we relaxed in the camp listening to traditional music and enjoying a delicious BBQ dinner. Afterwards we were entertained by a local belly dancer, which really topped off a wonderful night. All of our arrangements were booked through Sun Island Tours – everything worked perfectly and I’d highly recommend Dubai as a great destination. Photos Tara Graham Desert safari itself has its own exclusive on-board lounge. The flight from Sydney to Dubai was 14½ hours, and the experience of business class on the new A380 really made the time go quickly. Dubai has an abundance of shopping malls to tempt, and for something a little different, the Mall of the Emirates, a combined leisure, entertainment and shopping precinct, is the place to go. You can also try your hand at skiing the world-renowned Ski Dubai, the first indoor ski destination in the Middle East. The nearly 2½ hectare dome houses five runs and a chairlift. Another attraction is The Spice Souk Magic Planet, a two-level fun zone aimed at the tech-savvy and offering a wide variety of rides including roller coasters and high-tech video and simulation games. During our time in Dubai we visited the Spice and the Gold Souks. The Spice Souk is a market full of fresh Arabic spices – the colour and aroma surround you as you wander through. The Gold Souk offers a plentiful array of fine jewellery. The pieces are sold by weight, but you can try your hand at bargaining, particularly if you are purchasing more than one item. city’s most popular shopping precincts, theatres, galleries, bars and restaurants.
