In our community Increased fuel monitoring on the way T he RACT has welcomed the state government’s decision to help fund our fuel monitoring program. Instead of the current one-day-a-week monitoring that we have undertaken for some years, the program will be expanded to six days a week. Designed as a service for Tasmanian motorists, our monitoring initiative is a complex logistical exercise that provides a weekly snapshot of fuel prices in Tasmania. With the support of the state government, the program can now become more comprehensive and visitors to Cover story – it’s the start of something new! E xitLeft Productions is continuing the tradition of presenting spectacular musical theatre in Tasmania. Having broken all Tasmanian theatre box office records with the acclaimed production of CATS in 2007, their team of pioneering theatre producers are again rocking the Derwent Entertainment Centre with High School Musical On Stage! Over 100 performers will star in this highenergy musical theatre production, which is based on the Disney Channel’s original movie. The show follows the much-loved story of the movie, featuring all the characters and songs, together with two brand new numbers and an electrifying mega-mix finale complete with an Americanstyle brass band. To make the production affordable for everyone, the show is offering Adults at Kids’ prices. A-reserve tickets for this production are priced at only $39.90 plus transaction fees. WIN We have two double premium passes to give away – to enter, write your contact details on the back of an envelope and mail to High School Musical On Stage!, RACT Marketing, GPO Box 2271, Hobart 7001. Entries close 10 August. www.ract.com.au will be able to gain insights into who are the price leaders and the price laggers in Tasmania. A major upgrading of the RACT website is now underway to accommodate the new monitoring program. The government’s involvement in helping to fund the program represents a major advance for consumers in an area where it had been difficult to scrutinise fuel price fluctuations. However, we want to remind motorists that the cheapest prices aren’t the only part of the fuel price equation. Many motorists prefer outlets that offer full driveway service, such as provided by some independents, and you should expect to pay a few cents more for this convenience. One of the problems with basic refuelling stops is that simple car maintenance can be overlooked, often resulting in an unexpected breakdown.
