Journeys : April May 2009
Happenings Theatrical treats from April to June - The Playhouse, Hobart Hobart Rep farewells autumn and welcomes winter with some bright and brilliant banter in an Oscar Wilde classic – and a new feel-good Australian romantic comedy by Joanna Butler. 24 April to 9 May A Woman of No Importance Lords and ladies gather for afternoon tea at an idyllic English country estate. For young Gerald Arbuthnot and his mother, the assembled not-so-polite company holds the keys to happiness in love and life. A comedy/drama of serial seducers, moralising monogamists and secret pasts. Of English society, Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying ‘To be in it is merely a bore. To be out of it is simply a tragedy.’ You certainly won’t be bored and to miss it would be tragic! 29 May to 13 June I Want to be in a Jane Austen Novel Jen isn’t just looking for Mr Right – she’s looking for Mr Darcy. But the only tall, dark and brooding male in her life has four legs and a tail. So Jen takes refuge in Jane Austen novels! But as the characters begin to take over, she realises that Mr Darcy isn’t what he’s cracked up to be – maybe she wants someone from the real world.
